What to include and what not to include in resume?

Resume is an important piece of paper that serves to introduce you to the people who will eventually hire you. The writing of a good resume starts by you gathering all the information for each section of your resume, and then presenting this information in a way that will get the attention of the reviewer. Its important that the language you use in your resume be strong and able to stir emotion s in the heart of the recruiter so as to want to give you another chance in an interview. This therefore means that so you choose the word carefully and conscientiously.

To begin, choose proper words to translate the facts you have gathered of yourself into the active, precise language of resume writing. The language for use in résumé is that which attracts the readers interest and highlights your accomplishments in a concise and most effective way. In writing a resume, certain things are always included, but others are optional. Your choice of optional sections should be determined by your own background and employment needs.

The information that you present In a resume should be the information that sets out your strength and never any information that will prompt the interviewer to ask questions about your weakness or something else that could be unflattering. However never write anything about yourself that is not true.

Here are some guidelines about the things to include in the resume and those to keep of while writing it.

Following are the things that should be included in your resume:

  • Career or job objective which is specific. If however your objective is general, include a summary of your skills and qualifications that make you the best candidate for the job.
  • Work experience and education most [preferably in reverse chronological order.
  • Strengths and accomplishments in your job.

Things Not To Be Included in Resume

Following are the things that should not be included in your resume:

  • Do not list salaries that you enjoyed in any job.
  • Personal information. This includes date of birth, marital status, religion, ethnic group, height, weight, or health.
  • Names of supervisors or references. Instead write the statement “References available on request,” but this needs not appear at all if you have space concerns.
  • Do not use the word ‘resume’ on the top of the page.
